Limit pages for printing

Hi all,
Currently wondering if anyone has a good solution that would limit the number of pages allowed to be sent to a printer. We currently see students in the library printing large font copies of War and Peace and are looking for a way to maybe set a max print job at like 15 pages double sided. Ideas?

Hi,

Our University's print server administrators have used PaperCut (www.papercut.com) at least once to limit the size of print jobs to a maximum of n pages. I'm not entirely sure if the print-job limitation is still in place, as it's been a couple years since I was involved with the department that made the request.

I have a vague recollection that the CUPS printing daemon in Mac OS X could also limit the size of a print job, but it was a hassle to set up. Like I said, it's been a few years...

Even though I've never actually used it, I was going to recommend PaperCut as well as a possible solution. I researched it in a past position and it seems like a great solution for managing print costs and expendables.

We have PaperCut in use and it is a very good tool. It integrates nicely with directory services like OpenDirectory and also acts as a print server for iOS devices.

The users can access their account over web interface and the pupils can even exchange their quotas.
