Casper NetInstall Image Creator creates a netboot image, does this image contains casper imaging inside?

what i am trying to do is to boot all new mac to netboot server , and install pkgs load configuration files and enroll into jss.

so far what i know is, setup netboot server and upload pkgs and configuration files via casper admin to JSS.

my questions are 1. where does the nbi store, on netboot server certain folder or on JSS
2. when a new mac (not enrolled) boot from network, how does it load all the pkg and configuration files? is the casper imaging in the nbi already?
3.do i need to enroll the new mac first before the netboot installation?

Hi Dalmatian,

i guess what you really need to understand is that Casper and the JSS tie several OS X services together within the JSS, such as NetBoot and Apple Software Service.

On the NetBoot image is Casper Imaging, installed when you selected the location of the App in the NetInstall Creator during NBI creation.

NetBoot is simply a service, ie start up a computer from an NBI usually stored in /Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/

Once booted the internal hard drive is available to be erased, this is the primary goal of NetBoot. Then Casper Imaging starts up automatically instead of the Apple Finder.

Casper Imaging will auto complete the erase, install and enrolment IF you configure PreStage Imaging on your JSS. Effectively by entering the scope of device in PreStage Imaging you are letting the JSS know a device with this IP, MACAddress or serial number will be appearing soon, allow it to install xxx apps and then enroll. Handy if you have a thousand machines to deploy.

Hopefully this helps.
