All-

Wudi just gave me a ring.

This isn't the end of the world and Jamf likely is going to clear up some grey that's been out in the ether for awhile. What's not supported is the installation process onto non-OS X. Once it's installed, it's supported. So, calls like, "I'm having trouble with distribution XYC." Or, "Composer is giving me this trouble with ABC." That's supported. You won't be able to ring up saying, "Hey my Tomcat on Gentoo from 1995 has stopped responding."

Internally, (and Wudi said I could share this) there are test configuration documents for Win 2k8R2 and for Ubuntu LTS. So, internally they do test against non-OS X. The OS X requirement for install is so that they can treat the OS as the appliance that folks who don't know what the command-line are have a supported route to get started with. Nothing more.

So, it looks like I'll be living in Linux land and hitting up some folks for possible setup tips.
