Office 16.20.0 update package force closes office products

The last update we pushed out was 16.18.0 so not sure if this was implemented in 16.19.0 but running the 16.20.0 update packages listed here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/release-notes-office-for-mac#december-2018-release causes the respective office products to force close without prompt the user to save the unsaved documents.

In the previous updates packages, you could run the update while the office products were open and when the user quit and re-open the office product, it would run as the updated version.

Is this what everyone is experiencing or did I get a faulty update packages?

As I recall, MS always recommended quitting the apps before updating, even though it always seemed to update without issue in the background. We always forced them to quit before pushing an update, and of course MAU requires the apps to be restarted as well. So...we should be doing that, I think.

This saves me the trouble as 80% of the time when you close them, they hang. You sit and wonder what the eff is taking so long and it's always a MS daemon that wont die. Or 2.

As of this morning the package links on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/release-notes-office-for-mac are all 404 - anyone got a different source for them?
Thanks,
