I have a piece of software that I'd like to offer up for installation
by my users via Self Service. However, for political and
shifting-enrollment reasons, I CANNOT necessarily just create a
group/smart group of machines to which to apply the policy, which is
the normal way I limit who can install what software packages.
To that end, is there any way to password-protect a Self Service
installation policy, so that all machines would be allowed to see the
installer but would be prompted for a particular password before being
able to actually install the software.
Or is there another way to manage this task?
Thanks,

The way I do this is with LDAP. I have groups setup that I scope the policy
to. It would require you to have everyone login with a username and
password, then you can scope self service policies to just the people you
want.

Manage by AD users or groups, or OD group
Or set self service to require authentication to install apps but that would apply to all.
