Prestage Enrollment - Not Checking In?

Hi everyone,

We have PreStage Enrollments and we now have 2 Macs which initially enrolled and I see them registered in Jamf. The problem is, they do not check in after the initial registration and does not get our standard apps (which deploy via smart group targeting a policy for installs).

I see that the device does get the configuration profiles and it registers in Jamf but after that initial it seems to not check in any more.

Any suggestions where to look?

What do the client logs show (/var/log/jamf.log)?

Do you have "Collect available software updates" enabled under Settings > Computer Management, or any Extension Attributes that use the softwareupdate command line tool? I have seen this cause issues with both check-in and inventory on some devices due to a known issue in all versions of macOS.

Thanks for the reply. No EA for softwareupdate

BUT I do have "Collect available software updates" enabled. So this might be the cause of the issue?

It might be, there are known issues with the softwareupdated daemon that have broken inventory for some admins. I have seen it break check-in but Macs continue to update inventory which is the reason I mentioned it.

Before making any changes I would suggest getting a hold of the client logs from an affected Mac and analyzing. For me it was very apparent what was breaking it as I could see a policy with the "Software Update" payload attempting to execute, and that was the last line in the client log.

Not sure what the issue could be as it seems to install Jamf etc. As of today still no reporting back. I assume these we will have to remove from Jamf and re-enroll via manual process. I would like to get this resolved where it actually checks in
