Slow login connected to domain

We have machines that are bound to our AD domain. If a user locks the screen and then tries to log back into the machine there is a 20-35 second delay.
These machines are on 10.11.6.
We have been scratching our heads on this one, and have not been able to pinpoint what may be the cause.
It should be noted that our domain uses .local. It is legacy and there are no plans to change it anytime soon.

Have others experienced anything like this, that maybe we can look at implementing in our network to be able to cut the time down a bit. Our users are frustrated that they have to wait so long to log back in.

Is there a piece of software that can give me a trace of what is going on?

thanks

Have you checked out the following thread? I recently ran into the same issue and discovered it was our McAfee virus software causing issues. After troubleshooting with the security team they made some changes and that resolved the issues I was seeing.

@asegura Thanks for that. I will see if any of those options help!
