Updating app entries in self service catalog

We've mainly been using Configurator to deploy our VPP apps. I would like to start migrating over more to using our Casper Suite for either remote or Self Service installs. A month or so ago I added iMovie (v1.4.2) and assigned 30 redemption codes. If I buy additional iMovie licenses (now v2.0) do I add them under the same v1.4.2 catalog entry? Or do I need to add a new instance of iMovie into our app catalog? Alternatively, how can I update the v1.4.2 catalog instance to reflect the updated v2.0.

Hopefully someone can straighten me out. Nice meeting everyone at JNUC13. Had a blast.

Currently Configurator is the only way you can assign VPP codes that can be pulled back.

Apple will soon be changing the VPP model from codes that need to be redeemed to licenses that can be assigned. If possible, you should wait until this is ready. Otherwise any VPP codes you assign in MDM become owned by whichever iTunes account is logged in, and you can not get them back.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking forward to the migration from codes to licenses.

In this case.. Lesson learned. If in doubt, read the manual. I reviewed the admin guide for our Casper 8.73 and found on page 471 the answer to my question. You basically just have to update the version number to reflect the latest version exactly. Not sure how this works in Casper 9, but I'll be looking into it.

Hey Evan! Diddo on JNUC.

As far as your issue is concerned this is the model we currently use, and I would recommend creating a new instance now that iMovie 2.0 is out. We always create a new instance when we add apps to our catalogue though. This way we avoid issues with users whose apps begin downloading but never finish (among other things). This way, if we have to reupload the VPP codes to the JSS we don't remove all the codes and have to reupload more than one spreadsheet (which removes the record of who downloaded that app). When I name that app I always put the app name, the version it was at the time I uploaded and in my case, the user or site that requested those apps. That way I can see at a glance what that instance is and don't have to look at all the details.

Hope this helps!
