Users are Unable to Share Notes/Preview Images Using Messages

Hello all,

I'm puzzled as to why the option to share a note in the Notes app or an image in the Preview app via Messages isn't showing up (see image below). From what I understand, these sharing options can't be disabled on a Mac, so my guess is that something in JAMF may be restricting it. We simply want users to be able to share notes by clicking the box with arrow and selecting Messages. We've checked our restrictions, and there don't appear to be any in place, so it shouldn't be that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@mspikes Those options can definitely be disabled on macOS. The Jamf Pro GUI for setting those restrictions is the Restrictions payload of a Configuration Profile, and specifically the Sharing Services tab of that payload.

We do not have restrictions configured so unsure why we are unable to share via messages.

Go to System Settings -> General -> Login items & Extensions. Check the “Share” and “Enable Message” options. If “Enable Message” is not enabled, select “Same.” If “Enable Message” is grayed out and you cannot see it, it is blocked by MDM.

I checked from my side and see it exactly as you do

If the notes are stored on iCloud, you will be able to see the messages in sharing. However, if the notes are stored on a different provider, such as Google, they will not be available for sharing over message.

I have two different notes. One is available in iCloud, and the other is available in Google. I can see the messages in the sharing section of the note that is available in iCloud, but I cannot see the messages in the sharing section of the note that is available in Google.

Additionally, verify your signed-in on your iMessages.
