When adding/updating a configuration profile via JSSResource-API it is not sent to devices

Hi, I am adding or modifying configuration profiles via the REST API. But they are not distributed to the devices. When doing this in the Web Backend, I get questions like "Distribute changes to all devices". Is there a way to send the command "Distribute changes to all devices" with the REST API?
I actually had figured out one possible work around myself, by DELETEing and POSTing this config profile. This strangely enough works well in my browser, but does not work in my Ruby script.
