Wildcard blocking of Apps in MacOS

We have created a restricted application blocking policy using wildcards, example: VPN and VPN, but it does not seem to work. Are there methods to using this feature? We have several common VPN's blocked and that works great, but we block one and they download 12 more. We need a method to squash most of them if not all of them.

I know I can create Smart Groups with like VPN and locate those devices, but to chase down 200 + students is not very efficient.

I am open to ideas and or thoughts. Maybe a future request?

i dont think there is a way to do this... Honestly i doubt it could be rolled out as a feature too. I can see it causing more issues then not when using wildcards to restrict apps. its fine for discovery but when it comes to management action thats an issue. What might be an idea is to restrict categories or age rating in the App Store.
