About Column

For companies building financial technology and transforming the financial services space, the biggest bottleneck to their growth and innovation is often the underlying banks and infrastructure stack they rely on. We have spent our careers founding and scaling companies like Plaid, Square, SoFi, Blend, and Affirm, and have seen this problem firsthand — builders and developers needing to partner with traditional banks, and creating API and abstraction layers over the patchwork that is the bank, its core, and many other vendors. All of this results in a complex (and often expensive) banking supply chain involving a user, fintech, BaaS middleware provider, bank, core and the Federal Reserve.

At Column, we set out to simplify and fix this. We are a bank and a software company built from the ground up, offering builders and developers technology-forward banking solutions that cut out the hundreds of vendors, middleware providers, and abstraction layers. This means a safer, more transparent, and less costly banking supply chain. Come build with us!

The opportunity

As a TechOps Engineer at Column, you’ll ensure the seamless and secure operation of our enterprise devices within a rapidly evolving technological landscape. You will be the frontline of our TechOps function, ensuring Column’s team members have the hardware and software that they need to succeed. Working closely with our InfoSec team, you will help implement policies and ensure prompt remediation of outstanding issues. If you’re interested in no longer needing to work with outdated legacy infrastructure and the thought of building world-class experiences excites you, you’ll be excited about us. If you have a deep passion for technology and love building new things, we’ll be excited about you.

This role reports directly to the Head of Technology Operations, and requires an in-person presence in our Presidio-based office at least 3-4 days a week. It also will entail regular travel to our Chico-based office, and periodic travel to locations in Sacramento and Los Angeles.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain and optimize our endpoint management system, ensuring devices are compliant, secure, and consistently operational.
  • Rapidly diagnose and troubleshoot technical challenges, acting as a pivotal support pillar for the team across a range of technical issues.

  • Build, manage and maintain AWS infrastructure using kubernetes, terraform, and other automation tools.
  • Carry out routine system health assessments, proactively spotting potential hitches before they become larger issues.
  • Engage in hands-on disaster recovery exercises, aiming for a swift system restoration and minimal operational lags.
  • Stay updated on the latest technological trends and tools that can enhance user (employee) experience and operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing the risk associated with activities by adhering to policies and procedures established by the Bank and reporting issues identified to management

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3-6 years of experience in IT, Technology Operations or related function
  • Experience with macOS/Windows scripting languages and the ability to write scripts for endpoint management and automation
  • Experience working with and managing Okta, AWS, GSuite, Jamf, Microsoft Intune and other SaaS products.
  • Knowledge of kubernetes, terraform and other tooling
  • Skilled at detecting and resolving technical issues with a focus on effective problem-solving.
  • Be highly self-motivated and skilled at prioritizing within a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Committed to continuous learning, staying updated on the newest trends in TechOps and cloud infrastructure.
  • Jamf 200 and up or Okta certifications a plus
  • Organized, with the ability to manage several tasks and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

What you’ll get from us:

Just an FYI for what you are asking for in terms of skill level, location, and datasite management the pay is honestly offensive. JAMF alone in the Bay Area will get you more than that plus wanting AWS and Kubernetes building?

I know, Matt. I was LOL at this. 75k for Bay Area? Custodians make more than that. And less stress, too.
