New Contributor II

Hi there! Thanks for checking us out.

To be considered for this job, it is imperative to have a full understanding of macOS, associated MDMs, and experience with the business environments they operate in. We appreciate your interest!

About Us and the Job

Founded in 2016, Advisory is a small but fast-growing MSP and a proud member of the Apple Consultants Network. While we are primarily based in NYC, our clients extend across the country. We work with a large range of companies across the creative, medical, architecture, real estate, retail, and non-profit sectors (among so many more).

Part of our overall goal is to build efficiency through technology automation and we invest heavily in implementing the tools that make our services stand apart. This includes helping clients build Single Sign-On solutions (through OneLogin, Okta, G Suite, and Azure SSO), zero-touch deployment solutions (primarily via Jamf and Intune but also through Workspace ONE, Kandji, Addigy and Datto RMM), and bring value-added services through our partnerships and affiliations with Apple, Google, Jamf, Okta, VMware, Microsoft, Cisco, Sophos, Dropbox and Adobe just to name a few.

Job brief

We are looking for a hands-on systems engineer with a strong background in the macOS ecosystem. The day-to-day tasks will be focused on building, maintaining and scaling our mobile device management (MDM) environments. While this is primarily centered around Jamf and related technologies, this can also extend to other MDMs including VMware Workspace ONE, Addigy, Kandji, and others. You will play an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the company by ensuring that we are continuously staying ahead of vulnerabilities and updates, and innovate new ways to introduce automation to enhance the end user experience. You will act as the thought leader for ensuring our MDM instances maintain cutting edge best practices and you will help advise and build out new instances as new clients are onboarded. Where necessary, you will either directly assist or advise on tickets that are escalated from the service desk.

This role has the core responsibility of designing, testing, implementing and supporting solutions that are focused on building the most robust macOS management environments possible. This will include incorporating many of the widely available scripts for achieving and optimizing the user experience from zero touch deployment to self service engagement. The scope of this role will also include end user support to ensure adequate testing before production rollouts. You will work closely with the rest of the team to create and maintain both internal and external documentation.

In this role and as a broader focus, regardless whether a client is managed or not, you are expected to be apprised of all of their MDM platforms and understand their software, policy and configuration requirements. All issues must be resolved through thorough testing and deployment in a timely manner and you will need to be able to understand prioritization where an issue is flagged as urgent.

You will partner with your colleagues, client stakeholders and prospective customers to ensure our company's technological resources are used appropriately and client needs are attended to. You will regularly be interacting with senior stakeholders so it is important that you are confident in your technical advice but also aware when you need more time to explore and research an issue.

Your specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • You will own the implementation, upkeep, and maintenance of the Jamf instances. This will include implementing a regular cadence of application and OS patching, and improving upon the standard feature set with alerting, scripts and configuration policies.
  • Understand and maintain a mastery of zero-day vulnerabilities as well as general version numbers for all apps that exist in our environments.
  • Work with the Director of Operations to inform clients in a timely manner of any changes being pushed in a user facing capacity.
  • Act as an escalation point and mentor for other members of the team who need assistance with MDM environments.
  • Be able to research, evaluate and propose custom solutions that go beyond the traditional scope of a client engagement. You must always be willing to help or at least point a client in a proper direction with offers of support if they get stuck.
  • Maintain excellent documentation and procedures in Slab and documentation located in Google Drive.
  • Stay apprised of emerging technological trends and propose plans of action that will ensure that we are not playing catch up.

While the above is meant to give definition and structure to your job, every engagement is different and so is every client. We are, at our core, a white glove, bespoke IT consulting firm whose sole focus has to be on supporting our clients and their employees. Your job is to do so professionally while providing a value-add in all of your engagements. That is to say, our clients look to us and pay us to be a resource for all things tech related in their environments. Through your experience, ongoing research, professional development, and collaboration with the team and broader community, you must be able to either provide concrete solutions and pathways to achieve that or understand where to acquire this knowledge, synthesize it and present it back to the client in a coherent way.

Qualifications

  • Jamf Certified Admin (300) or equivalent certification
  • Understanding of scripting and automation in the macOS environment
  • Demonstrated project management and change management skills
  • Problem-solving approach with the ability to deal with ambiguity, tight deadlines, multiple priorities, and demanding environments
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with confidence to interact with management and senior stakeholders
  • Ability to quickly prioritize and take appropriate actions in handling escalated cases
  • Knowing when to escalate further up the chain of command
  • Flexibility and ability to learn and develop new skills on the job
  • The ability to effectively listen to, communicate with, challenge and influence team members, peers and senior leadership
  • Knowledge of Intune for Windows management is a HUGE plus

Outcomes of the Role’s Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Director of Technology to build and maintain our MDMs
  • Build automated solutions that solve repetitive problems
  • Provide customers with scalable solutions that alleviate pain points
  • Learn! We encourage all of our team members to use all the tools as we have as a playground. We want you to build your skills and we encourage (and pay for) professional development for certifications and training courses
  • Work closely with the broader team to improve upon documentation where applicable
  • Provide best in class support to continue to foster client trust and success
