Wasn't there a discussion here about Geek Tools? Try as I might I can't find it anywhere any more...

Currently I'm working on deploying a Windows 7 VM. However its tied to a MAK and only has x number of activations on it. I know I can scope it to outside of our network, but I'm unsure how to scope it to only run say, 300 times, and then not allow users to run again.

I have two JDS servers, no other distribution points. For some reason, no matter which "Default JDS Instance" is specified for the network segment that the computer is on, Casper Imaging will default to the first JDS, which is the master. I have tried a couple machines now on different subnets. After imaging, the client machines seem to be getting packages from the correct JDS, as expected. Is anyone else seeing this behavior?

I'm trying to test the password recovery option with FileVault, where you type your password incorrectly three times at the boot login. I get the prompt to enter the recovery key, i enter it and then it boots to the login screen where i'm prompted to enter a new password for my encrypted user. I enter a new password and it just shakes it off. I'm forced to enter my actual password. This is a Macbook Pro running 10.9 and i used JSSv9.2 to setup filevault2 with an individual key and institutional key. This is an AD bound user with a mobile account(which now that i think about it, might have something to do with the problem). Summoning @rtrouton][/url EDIT: I enabled a second standard user with FileVault and tried this with that user and i was able to reset the password. So, the issue seems to be with the AD bound user only. Found another thread on the topic: https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/discussion.html?id=7400

Is there a way to re-deploy a configuration profile that was only made available in Self Service? E.g. I have our Exchange configuration available in self service Profiles tab to assist staff and students with their email configuration. I assumed that if I removed the profile from Settings / General / Profiles that it would show back up in the Profiles tab of Self Service but in reality that hasn't happened. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone of you guys know or had experience setting up multiple NetSUS instances on different sites that are all on different subnets? Can you setup one of the NetSUS to be your master SUS and have the other instances sync to the master? How can this be done? Thanks in advance.

Curious if anyone else tried to use that discount code from JNUC for Macworld 2014 and now the discount is not working? Was their some kind of Cut off date to book by for it to work? Kind of hugely disappointed on this.

I Have the following problem:I have to create a script that does nothing more than copy a folder from destination A into the home-directory of the actually logged-in user. The script should be executed by SelfService. The idea is to have the source folder as parameter value $4, the actually logged-in user as parameter value $5 and the destination as parameter value $6.I use the following values:$4 = /private/tmp/Folder_A$5 = `ls -l /dev/console | cut -d " " -f 4`$6 = `/Users/$(echo "$(ls -l /dev/console | cut -d " " -f 4)")/Documents/`If I test the script in a terminal window it works fine, but if I execute it by SelfService, the values in $5 and $6 are not executed as values but as text instead. The result is an error message: 'Script result: cp: `/Users/$(echo "$(ls -l /dev/console | cut -d " " -f 4)")/Documents/`: No such file or directory…' Value $4 works fine. I already tried to cut the leading "``" without succ

For years, we have been having our end-users add printers via Self Service and it's worked flawlessly. Recently, we're seeing the following behavior: 1) End-user adds a printer(s)2) CUPS is supposed to stop itself and then restart, but this doesn't seem to be happening.3) The end-result is that no printers are listed in the "Print & Scan" system prefs pane. A few notes; - on a machine where this has occurred, when I try to restart CUPS at the command line using sudo launchctl start org.cups.cupsd but it does not actually start CUPS again. I know this because browsing to http://localhost:631 on the machine returns errors like "Cannot connect to server"- a restart of the system actually gets CUPS running again and the just-added printers show up, but we don't feel it's acceptable to ask our end-users to have to restart their system just for adding a printer. This *used* to work just fine all the way through Casper 7.x to Casper 9.2.1.

I'm re-architecting away from an all Mac OS Casper infrastructure. Can a JDS and NetSUS coexist happily on the same RHEL VM?

Setting the following variable to gather the user logging in and utilizing it via sudo used to work. The command now reports the console user as root. I have no idea when the behavior changed. When I setup the script initially it was working fine. That was Casper ver 9.1. Now at 9.22 it doesn't work. I have no idea if it is related to the release version or not. consoleuser=ls -l /dev/console | /usr/bin/cut -d " " -f 4/usr/bin/sudo -u $consoleuser CMDHERE before this would result in:/usr/bin/sudo -u johndoe CMDHERE now it results in:/usr/bin/sudo -u root CMDHERE Getting the value for the last logged in user out of com.apple.loginwindow.plist gets the last logged in user, not the current. IE, the script is running before com.apple.loginwindow.plist is updated. Has anyone else seen this? I've seen people recommend using a launch hook. I'd prefer not.

I had an old CS4 package that was improperly removed from the JSS. I think it was manually deleted from the master CasperShare directory, and then later from CasperAdmin- or something stupid like that. Anyway, the package absolutely is not on the JSS, not present in Casper Admin; but every time I sync a DP, I get: ERROR: Cannot copy AdobeCS4DS.dmg (AdobeCS4DS.dmg) because it does not exist on the master distribution point.Any ideas how I can eradicate this ghost for good?

Can someone please confirm that the Casper Management Logs (Imaging, Application usage, Remote usage, etc) are gone in version 9? If so then this is a tough hit for us - we have been reporting metrics from these logs to our management throughout our Casper deployment. I guess now I have some explaining to do...

I'm wondering if there is a way to configure Accessibility settings via Casper or script? It seems like something that should be in Configuration Profiles, as that would be the way to establish a trusted security chain for configuring this. Before I dig in and see if custom settings can control this I wanted to double check and make sure nobody else has already figured this out. What I want to do is define the list of apps under "Allow the apps below to control your computer" in Mavericks (or the equivalent in previous versions) so that AppleScript, A Better Snap Tool, TextExpander, and other applications that interact via Accessibility can function without requiring an administrator to approve them on every Mac.

Okay, so I've searched and searched and can't quite figure out how to add the 10.9 catalog URL to Reposado using the NetBoot SUS appliance. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, Anyone had any experiences deploying Safari extensions? Can you share your experience & workflow? Cheers!

One interesting feature I saw in the Google tool Munki/Simian (http://google-opensource.blogspot.com/2011/01/simian-mac-os-x-package-deployment-via.html) is that you can push patches to Macs even when they're off the corporate network. Is this possible with CasperSuite?

I have been having some issues with issuing the newest Microsoft Office updates on Self Service for all the staff and students. I download the update from the website and then open the .dmg file and pull the pkg file into Casper Admin and then make the policy on JSS. I did a few test runs but when it is almost to the end it will fail-is there something with the pkg file or the policy that I need to do something different with? Anyone have a quick fix with this?

I had an issue where I had to create a local admin user named admin on a few of our computers. What is the best way to get casper to remove that account so we only have the standard user left.

When I migrate to JDS's... Where does it copy my master deploy for first replication, my JSS sitting in the DMZ or the one sitting behind the dmz?

Hi all, Forgive me if this has already been covered - I have searched high and low. We are running Casper Imaging 9.21 on a 10.9 NetBoot image. When we image a MacBook Air over Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter (which has been specified in JSS as a removable MAC Address) and try to name the machine quickly as the MAC Address, it picks the Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter's MAC Address instead of the Wifi MAC Address. Is this by design? Am I missing something simple? We have a significant number of machines that require imaging soon and don't really want to go into network settings and copy and paste each Wifi MAC Address into the computer name field. Perhaps I need to submit a feature request to give you the choice of MAC Address in Casper Imaging, unless this has already been covered. Cheers,Gavin

We're (FINALLY) moving towards a larger picture plan with our Mac workstations, and allowing local mail applications to run on our Macs as opposed to a Citrix session. Our security team wants to display a pop up message at launch of MS Outlook (the chose application). For the life of me, I can't seem to scope that out as a policy. I could kill it 7 ways to Sunday, but to display a popup security warning message when the application launches has me scratching my head. Has anyone else come across this issue (a popup when an application launches)? If so, how did you solve it? Sometimes I can't see the forest through the trees, so please take that in mind.

I created a user with teh createuserpkg app and found that everything works except I can't ssh into a box using that account. I can using our jss account - so I know ssh is working, but just not with that account.

I've been asked to turn off the Remote Management option on all clients, so that technicians cannot access client machines through Apple Remote Desktop and instead must use Casper Remote (since Casper Remote screen sharing sessions can be configured to require approval on the client end, and all sessions are logged on the JSS). I'm writing an extended attribute that will monitor the status of the Remote Management service, so that we can have a Smart Group of clients that have it turned on (and we can get emails when the status changes). It's proving a bit more complicated than I hoped--ideally, you could just run "kickstart status" and get usable output, but as far as I can tell the kickstart command has no option to query status. There's a command here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/90848/check-remote-management-status-via-terminal but the problem with it is that it only works if it is run as the currently logged in user; since Casper runs
