Here's what happened... I had an iPad 2 with a bad display so I backed it up to my computer and took it to the Apple Store. They exchanged the iPad for a new iPad 2. I've restored that iPad from the backup. Here is my problem... 1) When I boot the iPad it tells me I need to set a passcode (which was a requirement of one of the profiles the old iPad had) but when I go into settings I don't see any profiles installed. 2) When I try to enroll the iPad, it downloads the CA Certificate Payload and MDM Profile profiles but it doens't install the Self-Service app and Casper just shows the UDID and no other information for the device (it says it isn't enrolled). If I wipe the iPad, set it up as new and enroll it, everything works fine. Is there some way to get rid of the phantom profile that it seems to be installing with the restore so that I can get my data back and enroll the iPad or am I out of luck?

Does any one know how I can package this in Casper to stop it from prompting the user to agree to the EULA and if they wish to make Reader the default PDF viewer? I have tried taking a snapshot with these setting already picked but it still seems to ask the user. Also I have also tried the Adobe Customization Wizard XI however on the Mac it only appears to be for Adobe Acrobat, not Reader. It always prompts for a serial code. Any other suggestions?

I'm configuring a new instance of Casper at another office location, similar to the one I'm already running at HQ. Problem I've got is that the machine being imaged never finishes up behind the jamfHelper full screen lock. Looking at the clients jamf.log, the last entry is 'Deleting home directory for adobe install...' Subsequent reboots sends it right back to the full screen block also. EDIT: and then after letting it sit like that for a few hours the jamf.log did move on to 'Checking for policies...'. So why so damn slow.... Casper 8.6, 10.7.5 image

Our 10.6 clients have a separate partition that we push the user's home folder to. Since upgrading to JSS 8.62, we've found that policies that use the "Fill Existing Users" option no longer update the home folders not on the startup partition (worked fine in JSS 8.4). I'm wondering if there's a new JSS setting I've missed. Any thoughts would be appreciated... thanks!

Hey all, Having an issue with a restrictions config profile. The config profile has a restriction set to block access to the Profiles preference pane. However it's also blocking access to all the of third party preference panes, i.e, Wacom, etc. Nothing is checked off in the config to make this occur. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Thanks!

Hi guys I noticed in my excel spread sheet the date format not showing in UK formats I narrowed it down to the Region in the Language and Text Preference Pane. Does any one know how i can set the Region to United Kingdom via the command line Thanks

Alright, there is a high probability that I've missed something very basic here. I've set my new update policy (script by UESCDurandal as described in https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/discussion.html?id=5890). Absolutely awesome script BTW. In any event, I've scoped this to the groups I need it to, however I've tried to set the policy to run on Monday - Thursday 2:30pm to 6pm. This means that I've set my date and time limitations as follows: Do Not execute On: Sunday, Friday, SaturdayDo Not Execute Between 6:00pm and 2:30pm (proper logic form what I remember). While the policy DID NOT run on Saturday or Sunday, it did run on Friday, and it IS running at any time fo the day (so say to logs). In any event, I hope that I'm missing something very basic. It's the start of the new year and my brain has probably run as far away as possible.

hi guys I have 3 pkgs in a folder and i wondered if it is possible to install them via the command line with a for statement. does anyone know if this is possible and how to do this? Thanks

We have a number of machines in our inventory which were Filevault 2 encrypted prior to upgrading to JSS 8.6. Is there a way for their individual recovery keys to be inventoried and retrieved or do the machines need to be unencrypted and then re-encrypted using the JSS?

Like the subject says folks I am looking for a nice reboot script that pops up and says its doing something then reboots the computer. Our users are students ranging from JR high to High School and facility. They do not reboot their computer and come in and ask us why is this not working? I want to have something in Self Service that they can run for example "techfixit" and the computer reboots thoughts does anyone else do something like this? We are also having problems with printers pausing maybe this can be integrated into the script that unpauses the printer the users do not have permission to unpauses a printer and for some reason gets paused. Thanks!!

Fellow JAMFers, I am looking for best practices or creative solutions for updating Java through a policy. I was able to get my smart group created, but unfortunately when I manually run the policy to my test group, I am met with the following return in terminal... "Gathering Policy Information from https://me.mystuff.domain:port#//...Executing Policy Java 7 Update 09... Mounting smb://me.mystuff.domain/casper to /Volumes/casper 1... Error: The package (Java 7 Update 09.pkg) could not be found. Unmounting file server..." My method of getting the package into the Casper repository was just dropping the .PKG I extracted from the .DMG off of Oracle's Java website. I tried to convert the .PKG to a source in Composer but, it wasn't able to. I did capture the install via monitoring the install to my machine, but alas even then I am greeted with the same response in terminal. Is there something I am missing or possibly doing wrong? I have been able to push o

I'm trying to mount a users Active Directory home drive and DFS share's when a user logs into Lion or Mountain Lion. The home drive mapping was easy to do. A simple change in the Directory Utility "Use UNC path from Active Directory to derive network home location". I can successfully mount the DFS share from the finder "Go, Connect to Server" using kerberos. I found the "mountNetworkShare.sh" script in the Resource kit and have modified it I believe with the correct settings. As we don't currently have JSS setup I was hoping to start testing the mounts and give it out to select staff to use daily before our JSS environment is setup. I've tried running the script as a loginhook but nothing happens when I login. Is there a better way to run this script at login? Is there a log file I can check to see what's happening when the script is executed or indeed to ensure that the script is being executed?

I am new to Mac and Jamf. When our MacBooks were imaged the Spotlight stopped working. I found the problem is i need to remove a file from the root named .metedata_never_index and restart the indexer I am attempting to wright a script to use with the self service portal. If they have the problem they can just run it from there.Script#!/bin/sh#sudo rm /.metedata_never_indexsudo mdutil -i on /Script end I think i need to run this as root, this is why i used sudo command but it asks for password and if i run it from self service it dose not prompt me for password. I have a hidden account on all the mac's named tech that is an admin account, can i use that account to run under or can i just have the user be prompted for there password. Is this the best way to do this?

I am trying to find out how often the IP information of a machine is updated. Is it only when it phones home? Is it when we run an inventory? Is it both? We are trying to run recon on several machines and trying to connect with them seems to be a bit of hit and miss since we only have the last reported IP.

Hello, I am bringing online a brand new JSS install(OS X server) on a site where it hasn't been in use. I installed the JSS and pointed it to the wrong URL. I specifically didn't add the s in https nor :8443 in the address when prompted. I've found that I can change the address under Settings->Global Management Framework Settings->JSS URL and changed it. Are there any concerns I should have about having put the incorrect URL in while initializing the software? Aside from my concerns regarding my ability to follow directions.... Thank you. I could blank the database and start over at this point. Should I though? Or am I just worrying about nothing? Thank you.

Software Update ran using Self Service points to our internal SUS and Ihave a notification email (as attached). I have checked the Mac with "lastreboot" command and it has been rebooted after the update.Have you seen this before? It is with repetition pattern of/SourceCache/AppleFSCompression/AppleFSCompression-24.4. Any ideas? Also I am keep getting repeated notifications! Cem

Is there a way to ignore an update coming from Apple's SUS without running a local SUS? I have a group of machines that are trying to install an update every night. They say they are successful, but then they install the same update the next day.

I am trying to create an extension attribute that detects the presence of an installer package cached in the Waiting Room. I can run the script manually in terminal and get a true or false result. When I place the script in the extension attribute, I get no result returned. The script: if [ -e /Library/Application Support/JAMF/Waiting Room/*.pkg.cache.xml ] then echo "true" else echo "false"fi What am I doing wrong?

Hi Nation... i recently bought an app for iPad from VPP program. Download the .xls file... Upload it from casper with the creation of the APPS from the JSS... My screen flashes and nothing appears on the screen... no codes nothing... total, redeem and available stays at 0.... is there a reason why ?

Hi All, I have just received the first 13" Retina MBP and it's another painful case of new OS build and no worky with my 10.7.5 NB servers /Base 10.7.5 OS. Can anyone confirm whether these new models (10,2) will only work with Mountain Lion? I haven't been able to find out otherwise. I went through the whole painful process of making separate NB and Base OS images when the first round of Retina Display's came out but here I'm thinking without some firmware/driver hacking these new ones will only run 10.8. Was delaying the inevitable to 10.8 as my company has policies not to upgrade for at least 6 months after a major release but the way Apple are moving toward yearly releases this will have to change. CheersT

Ok where do I get the self service application? The documentation says link here for the self service.tar.gz file and there is not active link. Please bear with me as this may be a dumb question but I have been using Casper for a while but just now exploring the use of self service. Thanks in advance.

I'm using Self Service to install a few things, and I've made sure the setting in Settings > Computer Management Framework Settings > Self Service are setup to "End users do not need to authenticate locally to install Self Service Items" Most packages install just fine in the past, but I do have a package that keeps prompting for end user password. Any hints on where to start to diagnose why this is happening?
