10.6 Software Update

Has anyone had a problem with Snow Leopard clients going against their own Software Update Server and OS updates not being visible?

I ran into this where I had a 10.6 client pointed at my 10.6 server with the CatalogURL in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist set to http://llcasper01.llan.ll.mit.edu:8088/

It would find updates, but only for things like Safari and iTunes. It was odd because I had the 10.6.2 combo update available on the server. What I found was that I needed to specify the entire catalog string in the CatalogURL setting. So, my CatalogURL ended up looking like http://llcasper01.llan.ll.mit.edu:8088/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog, for example.

It's fine that now I have it working, however in the JSS (version 6) I can only specify the DNS/IP and port and there's no way to specify the whole string. Anyone know of a work around? I was thinking I could just script a defaults write statement for machines and scope it to the appropriate OS version instead of setting it here. But, I'm open to ideas.
