802.1x Incorrect Password prompts

I noticed that with username/password (EAP-GTC) 802.1x when a user’s password is changed in the directory, some supplicants prompt the user for a new password and others don’t and just error out can't connect.... Does anyone know if this is documented in a spec somewhere or if it’s an OS-specific detail?

Also - are there any documented profile keys that could force a pop-up on wrong password. We have a 90-day password rotation policy in affect for user directory and machines are not bound! We'll be investigating Jamf Connect over the next few months.
