Adobe Remote Update Manager Issues

Hello all,

I'm having seeing some weird issues with Adobe Remote Update Manager, which I use via policy to patch our Adobe Creative Cloud apps.  For some reason, I have applications that will no longer update to their latest minor versions of Creative Cloud 2021.  This includes my own personal workstation which has the Adobe suite installed.  We haven't deployed CC 2022 apps yet, so this post is specific to continuing to patch CC 2021 apps.  In any event, here's my scenario:

  • Intel Macs (mostly iMacs)
  • macOS Big Sur 11.6.1, and macOS Catalina 10.15.7
  • Adobe Creative Cloud app version 5.6.0.788 (which seems to be the latest according to posted documentation)
  • Adobe Remote Update Manager (/usr/local/bin/RemoteUpdateManager) version 2.6.0.9 (also seems to be the latest version)

I've run the RemoteUpdateManager app via script, policy, logged in with Terminal, etc, and getting the same results.  There are no errors returned when RUM is run.  In addition, this is happening to my entire installed Adobe CC 2021 base, approximately 250 systems) not just an isolated subset of systems.

I'm able to get the latest minor versions of the CC 2021 apps for the following titles (latest version in parenthesis):

  • Adobe Dimension (3.4.5)
  • Adobe Dreamweaver 2021 (21.2.0.15523)
  • Adobe InCopy 2021 (16.4.0.54)
  • Adobe InDesign 2021 (16.4.0.54)
  • Adobe Lightroom (5.0)
  • Adobe Lightroom Classic (11.0.1)
  • Adobe Photoshop 2021 (22.5.3)
  • Adobe Prelude 2021 (10.1)
  • Adobe Premiere Rush (1.5.62)
  • Adobe XD (45.1.62.3)

Meanwhile, the following apps will no longer update to their current minor versions (version they are stuck at first and current version they should be at second, in parenthesis)

  • Adobe After Effects 2021 (18.4.1) (18.4.2)
  • Adobe Animate 2021 (21.0.9) (21.0.10)
  • Adobe Audition 2021 (14.4) (14.4.2)
  • Adobe Bridge 2021 (11.1.1.185) (11.1.2.191)
  • Adobe Character Animator 2021 (4.4) (4.4.2)
  • Adobe Illustrator 2021 (25.4.1) (25.4.2)
  • Adobe Media Encoder 2021 (15.4.1) (15.4.2)
  • Adobe Premiere Pro 2021 (15.4.1) (15.4.2)

I'm not aware of any config or cache files I can clear, reset, etc to see if it can cause a different result.  I know this isn't Adobe support, and this isn't a Jamf specific issue, but I'm wondering if anyone else that's managing Adobe updates using RUM are encountering the same issues.  I'd have to write this all up for Adobe support anyway, so I figure I will post it here first.  I can see the updated minor versions in my Adobe Admin Console, but I really don't want to package these items up again just to get the minor versions deployed to my managed Mac systems.

My gut feeling - this is related to Adobe's new "LTS" policy for Enterprise, and for some reason RUM isn't in sync with it for some reason.

Glad to receive your thoughts and feedback.  Would be great if someone from Adobe could chime in too if any of their Enterprise folks still happen to monitor posts in Jamf Nation...
