When you create a class for use with Apple's Classroom app, Jamf Pro automatically creates an associated EDU profile that is installed on teacher Mac computers in addition to teacher iPads. This now allows teachers to use Mac computers to communicate with student iPads.

But I am not able to see the Classes on the Mac. When I submitted a support ticket today thinking that I missed a setting somewhere my Jamf Buddy responded that this functionality does not exist and to submit a Feature Request.

I had the same issue the MDM enabled user needs to match the teacher username in the mdm profile.

Many thanks to @ryanj for the tip. The "User and Location" username in JAMF MUST match exacly the username as it appears in "Users and Accounts" and as it appears in Users > General > User > username. The username is also case sensitive.

This is an old post so not sure if it is still active or not. I understand the username matching that is discussed above. When these are all done then classroom works for me. The difficulty I have is that our macs are in a lab environment. The logged in user will never match the name that is used to enroll the device in JAMF. Is there anyway to get Classroom to work in a multi user mac environment. If not what do others use for classroom management ARD?

Hi @sschloma What we do for iPads that are not 1 to 1 is assign them to a unique username (xxGrK101, xxGrK102 xx is building GrK is grade, 1 is section 01 is seat) and then add each section to its own group. We make a manually created Class in jamf and add that group to the class. We then add teachers, who ARE assigned to their devices, ( usually home room and specialists) to a User group and add that user group to the class. It seems like those same principles wold apply here.

@Sandy I was thinking along those same lines, but I can not find anywhere where macs can be put into groups that can be attached to a class. Mobile device groups can be attached to classes, but not computer groups. So I am stuck with this problem that requires the enrolled user of the macbook to match the logged in user or the mac shows offline in Classroom.

Teachers can 100% manage macbooks (I'm assuming iMacs too, but don't have an iMac lab to test). We do not setup groups, teacher can do this themselves (in under a minute).

The lab environment doesn't really change the process. I'm assuming the lab isn't "frozen" or nuking personal folders daily etc. The problem with pre-made groups based on the lab computer name would be knowing which student is logged in/off the path/playing minecraft. If the teacher adds the group, the students names (or whatever they enter in) would be the display on the teacher screen.
