automatic translation from \\servername\ to smb://servername/ ?

Does anyone know of a system-wide tool that can translate servernameshare links in webpages, documents, and email to smb://servername/share/ format when users click on the links? I don't want to change the way it is displayed in the documents, I just want the system to be smart enough to know to process it in a Mac-friendly way. I've seen that some programs are smart enough to do the translation but it isn't universal.

I found WinShortcutter But it doesn't seem to work with Yosemite (and presumably El Capitan).

I'm not certain when it first appeared, but at least as of 10.10.x there is already a built in Service from a contextual menu that you can access by highlighting the Windows formatted URL and control/right clicking and choosing "Open URL" It may appear under a Services sub-menu or it may be at the top level of the context menu. Either way, this actually works to open the URL using a Mac friendly format. If the user needs to authenticate against the server, they'll get prompted to enter their password in a standard auth dialog box when they choose this.

I know its not as seamless and invisible as having it auto format any clicked links, but I'd try to educate your users on how to use that function.

ooooohhh... I see that now. Hmmm yeah that is useful but hidden. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll see if I can get my users to learn that one.
