Backup Ideas

Tossing around some ideas at work, have about 50-60 users on site. We're thinking of possibly going with a mac mini server and a 5 bay thunderbolt drobo.

Obviously hardware sever choices are limited, but storage isn't.

Is this a good way to go? I'd obviously like the performance to be as ideal as possible.

Thanks!

For general backup purposes? Should be fine, but I've never tested the write speed of a Drobo. Are you planning on using the mini with the Server app as a Time Machine destination? If you aren't, it seems like attaching it to a mini doesn't get you anything over connecting each client to the Drobo as network storage.

General backup, would like it to be redundant hence the attractiveness of the drobo. And yes, I'd like to OS X Server unless there's a better way. I haven't had the best luck at home using time machine to network shares manually.

Thanks!

We use the Promise Thunderbolt Raids. They are pretty fast. And the pricing is probably comparable to the Drobo.
