So, to make the long story short, here's a warm tip for everyone: don't use several VPP accounts with the same apps purchase for managed distrubition at your business/school. What has happened with us was this:

Sounds about right. VPP managed distribution just assigns licenses without checking if they're needed, so it could only work this way. It also means that if you assign an app the student already purchased themselves, it still uses a license.

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if this concern is still relevant or has an update fixed this issue? I work at a sizable university and we have several different "sites" in our JSS. I was wondering if it's possible to assign a VPP account to only one site. In other words, keeping the apps purchased with our account completely separate from the other sites without the option for the other sites to even accidentally assign our apps to their devices.
We currently run JSS v9.65.
Apologies if this is irrelevant. I'll go ahead and start a new thread in that case.
Thanks all!
