Best way to manage energy saver prefs?

Is there a recommended way to manage energy saver prefs?

I could run pmset commands as a login, or startup pref, but I was hoping to find a way to do it with plain ole mcx?

I also noticed a few items in the dev kit, as well as some scripts - is there a sanctioned way that folks have settled on?
