Boot Camp 4 and Sysprep Error

I have recently gone through and rebuilt our Boot Camp images for our labs. While doing so, I upgraded to Boot Camp 4 (from 3.3). After I configured the Windows 7 image as we need the image is Sysprepped and captured with WinClone Pro 3.4. When restoring the image I get the following error message as it starts to load hardware - "Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration restart the computer". My Sysprepped Boot Camp 3.3 work just fine. Has anyone else run into this with Boot Camp 4?

The Windows image is Windows 7 32 bit. The hardware being built from is a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010 running 10.7.5, 2.4 GHz i5, 4 GB RAM.

Hi there,

That message can occur if you sysprep your image too many times. You're only allowed a handful of rearms. There are other things that can go wrong, though. You can actually check the logs to see more specific errors:

  • If you press F10 at the failed sysprep screen, you'll get a task manager window.
  • Choose File>New Task (Run) and run notepad.exe.
  • From the Open window, browse to C:WindowsSystem32Panther
  • Change the type of document from Text Documents to All Files
  • Select setupact.log or setuperr.log. These have different info, so you may want to check both.

Thanks rweaver. I will check on those log files. At first I thought I had rearmed one to many times but it happened of clean install of Win7 and the first time it had been sysprepped.

Pressing F10 did nothing.

Sorry! My mistake. It's been awhile since I've done it. Try SHIFT + F10. It also may open a cmd window instead of task manager--if so, "notepad.exe" should work just fine.
