Contact Time vs Report Date

Not applicable

Could someone give me a brief explanation of the difference between the
inventory options "Last Contact Time" and "Last Report Date"?

We've got several instances of drastic differences. In one case, a machine's last contact time was 11/22, but it's last
report date was 6/25.
On the other hand, we've got a bunch of machines that have last report
dates, but no last contact time.

Is there something I'm missing with these machines?

Thanks,
Bob Feldhake

Pretty sure report date is supposed to be last time machine reported inventory

Contact is last time it checked in

Last contact time is when it last checked in, ie ran policy, last
inventory date is when recon did a full report. I think, though I
would suggest you refer to the manual to be 100%

What are your update inventory options in the JSS?

I believe Tom is correct. Last Contact is when a computer checks in with the JSS for framework updates and it logs the contact. However, if your policies require an inventory report then the report date would be updated at that time as well. It sounds like you need to check your policies and make sure you have them set properly for scheduled inventory reports.

If you image machines with the “Update Inventory” box checked, that could be why you have some machines with Report Dates but no Contact Date because they have never been on the network to contact the JSS after the imaging process.
