DAVE 8

Not applicable

We are moving to Dave 8 (along with moving from 10.5 to 10.6). The
application installs fine along in a policy we bindtoAD-installDave. We have
two packages in it: The DAVE 8.1 installer (DAVE.pkg) and DAVEPrefs.pkg. The
trigger is bind. (under Accounts we have Bind checked to our AD)

The issue I'm having is getting the preferences set. I've built a pref
package (using composer - tearing out pieces after an install), but it isn't
working (the one time it ran - it got the original machine's machine
name)...... Anyone out there have a trick for this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Leonard,

I know this doesn't help you with your question... but what is the reason you are going to be using DAVE? We had a group using it in the past here, but we found that everything we need can be done with the built-in AD plug-ins. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something.

We also had some issues with files that users created on a Windows share that were using DAVE. Basically, without DAVE the files either did not show up, or were not displayed properly. Now that I think of it, maybe it was more of a named streams issue. This was some time ago.

Thanks,
Ken

Mac's still don't support Distributed File Systems. DAVE / ADMITMac
does the translation so they can access them.

At least that's why we use it.

Ditto.

We're just deploying the application here and physically touching the
machine afterward to update the DAVE Settings pane (until we fill in the
correct information, the ID is the same as whatever machine the package was
created on)...not an elegant solution, but I wasn't ready to deal with the
headache of scripting in the user's information from dscl and getting their
shares setup.

To reiterate:

What I'm looking for is how to create the script - (like wudi did for
version 7 here) where the serial number/licensed to fills, the signing
policy we use holds (not the generic one), and the machine name fills with
the name put in through Casper..

..and yes the reason for DAVE is DFS....
