I have read several JAMF Nation articles and blogs from other sources so I think I have this down but I want to make sure before rolling it out to hundreds of computers. I downloaded the Office 2016 for Mac iso file from Microsoft's VLSC site. We are not an Office 365 customer. I extracted the Microsoft_Office_2016_Volume_Installer.pkg and placed it in my Deploy Studio repository (packages folder). I then added the package install to my imaging workflow with the option of installing on first reboot. Everything seemed to go fine and Office got installed successfully. Upon first launch of an Office app such as Word, I get the What's New screen and a Get Started button. No activation was necessary. And my existing Config Profile to put the Office Updater in to manual mode still works. I'm not sure of the need of the Serializer package or maybe it's included in all VLSC downloads?
I then downloaded all of the separate updaters, and use Casper to place them on the targets temp folder, use a script to run each of them and then delete the installation package. When I reopen Word, it's up to date. However I don't get a What's New splash screen. I thought I would since there would be enhancements. I went from the original install of 15.7 to 15.9 with the updates.
Everything seems to be okay.

@msnowdon The MS team have offered the VL.pkg to enable licensing in the myriad of scenarios us Mac admins might image/deploy.
If you're installing the apps from the local HD, you'll not need the VL.pkg

Okay, thanks. Just wanted to make sure. Like you said, there are a myriad of scenarios, it's mind blowing. VLSC, SKU-less, O365, etc.

@msnowdon yea. It's "our" fault though. As the MS team were overly accommodating of all our deployment methods & their own license models.
