Deploying Universal Type Client

Kedgar

Have any of you deployed the Universal type client? I am deploying it along
with the server config file. I have some questions about how you
programmatically disable other font management software and deploy the
plug-ins at install time.

Thank you,
Ken Edgar

We do use UTS.

We install the pkg at 1st run AFTER CS. This way all plugins are installed, without having to snapshot.

Thanks Ben,

I just realized that it seems to deploy the plug-ins automatically with the
installer package. We have users right now using Suitcase Fusion & Fusion
2... sometimes along with FontBook. It's a bit of a mess that I hope to
clean up with UTS.

Not sure if this will help anyone.

We're using UTS with AD, but as we've such a large AD the LDAP syncs started messing up & now we're using a MSSQL DB for all our user information.

We wanted to change the default users settings, & after speaking to Extensis we were given some SQL Commands to make the updates we wanted, details are here: http://macmule.com

I noticed that the UTC 2.1.1 mpkg worked fine as a drag and drop into Casper
Admin, but I've had to snapshot 2.1.3 for successful installs.

I did a snapshot of 2.1.3 along with server config, I haven't tested auto-activation though…
@ Ben I took the snapshot on a Vanilla OS, will this mean the plugins don’t get installed on the captured package?

If the Adobe apps are not on the system then no the plug ins will not be
installed.

Yes. Afaik the plugins are only created when the relevant folders are found during the install process.

Maybe the mpkg requires caching locally before install?

Tried that, still inconsistent results when installing straight from the
MPKG. Ended up going with snapshots of Cs3, CS5, and CS3+CS5 versions,
which was a pain but seems to be working well.

Also if you upgrade from any earlier UTC 2.x and after deploying get a
Œcould not start FMCore' error, try rm rf .Extensis in the affected ~, log
out and back in, seems to work a champ.
