(Not referring to Apple's Do Not Disturb, which is a totally different thing that what I'm looking for)
Curious if anyone has seen or used any kind of "Do Not Disturb while x application is running" solution to prevent macOS updates from occurring while specific applications are open?
Example- We use Ivanti for our Windows endpoint management. Ivanti has a feature called Do Not Disturb (DnD), which allows us to create a list of apps, which if any of them are running, then Ivanti will not force a reboot until they are all quit, up to 7 days. If the app is never quit, the device will restart automatically 7 days from the initial task start, with lots of notifications so the user is aware.
One of my biggest challenges is that due to research occurring 24x7x365, there is no optimum time to perform updates for all users. I currently schedule OS updates to occur outside of normal business hours, to impact the fewest number of people, but we still get a lot of issues with people complaining that an update occurred during an important Zoom meeting with someone on the other side of the planet, forcing a restart, and jeopardizing some grant or project or other thing.
So, what I'm looking for is some way to not allow OS updates if particular apps are running, but deferred for set a period of time before they are forced.
I have not been able to wrap my brain around how I might do this in Jamf, and searching has not yielded many ideas.
Would this be worthy of a Feature Request, if it doesn't already exist?
