epson printer drivers

Not applicable

Hi,
We've been having a problem with epson print drivers and casper imaging. We're running 10.6.6 on clients and server, when imaging machines with Casper using a .dmg of the print driver and the epson updater v. 7 that we created in Composer, the printer shows up in the system preferences, but when we goto print, the print dialog box will not give us the full range of epson options for printing, just he CUPS options. The workaround, is we have to reinstall the updater from the standalone image that is downloaded from the epson website. I've also tried creating just one .dmg with the driver and the updater installed together. Anybody else running into this problem?

Thanks,

Eric

I'm having issues with Epson Stylus Pro 4880s.

Even when I hand install the driver packs if I try to have the printers
add through a policy when you go to print nothing happens. When I add the
printers to the system by hand then the proper monitor with ink levels
comes up and voila. I've tried to snapshot the difference when I hand
install the printer, but nothing I've come up with has worked here.

I'm not sure if you're having similar issues. What model printers?

Hi,

I've seen this issue with Epson 3800, 3880, 4880, and 7800 printers. Could be more but those are the only printers I have had to support.

Composer Snapshotting and File Events have both failed with Epson drivers. I've given up and just included the Epson drivers on my base OS X image, though this solution doesn't help me if they ever need to be updated on the machines and I want to push down a package with a policy. Thankfully Epson doesn't have a habit of updating drivers too often :-).

I've also never been successful in getting Casper to manage printer queues for the Epson's that have this printer driver packaging issue. I'm definitely curious to see what others are doing about Epson printer drivers, since they seem to be the most popular for Photography labs.

Thanks,
