Hi,
Currently we are changing hostname's from like;
losx-12345
to
lmos-12345
The devices are managed, we really would like to change the hostnames to the new via a script or something and make it up-to-date in our AD.
Anyone ideas about this or having this done earlier?
Greetings,

Renaming the Mac using a script isn't complicated. Where you will run into problems is updating the AD records. There's no way I'm aware of to do that from the client end running a script, other than renaming, unbinding and rebinding to AD with the new name. That's really the only proper way to get the AD record to reflect the new computer name. It might be possible to coordinate this with someone renaming stuff in AD, but I think that would be a little dangerous myself.
I'd have to question if it would really be worth the trouble to do the whole unbind rebind dance in this case. The name isn't changing dramatically, so I would consider just leaving them, unless you have AD admins that are particularly anal about names matching and this is a must be done item.

@mm2270 Thank you for your response! appreciate that :)
But yea that was also my thought maybe rebinding dance, but thats a hell of a job for a bunch of devices.
Long live the bind to AD..
Cheers
