I was just wondering how some of you may handle the inventory of unmanaged
computers. I am mainly looking at keeping track of software licensing, and
want some of my unmanaged clients to still update their inventory once a
week automatically. Is this possible with the jamf binary?
Thanks

Hi Alan,
Use Recon from the workstation ( will not be helpfull for large environment)
Scan the network using recon
Using Quick Add Package of Recon. ( Share the Quick Add Package and user
can install it from the shared drive or zip it the package and send it
in a mail)
Check for Previous threads: *Self Service as a way to get the JAMF client deployed in new environment*

The problem with this suggestion is that the machines will now be managed
and I want to keep them unmanaged and just have them send inventory reports
and thats it.

Hi all,
This came up when I was onsite with a customer this week. The solution we found was to...
/usr/sbin/jamf recon -overrideJSS "https://jss.yourorganization.com:8443/"
...at your desired interval.
For those who are unfamiliar with creating launchd tasks, AFP548 has a great article on the subject...

As usual, test, test, test.
