IPAD APP

We have an app with 179 licenses all being used up. I grabbed some old ipads to delete the app from them and free up licenses so we can install on new ipads. Jamf still shows 179 being used up. Thoughts?

If you have more then 179 devices scoped to the app, you'll run into licensing issues due to how licenses are assigned to devices.

All devices in the scope for an app consume a license, even if the app is not actually installed on the device.

If the device is in scope it will use a license whether the app is manually removed or not. There is a feature request at https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/feature-requests/4813/assign-device-based-mac-app-licenses-on-demand to alter behavior and (IMHO) is well worth upvoting.

The third post in that request details a "Kludge" that we use extensively to allow classrooms to install paid apps.
