Our IT team recently had to move computers around in a hand-me-down type fashion. Because of this, we had to rename computers (automated from a non-JAMF script matching a DNS entry) and thus have some matching computer names (hostnames) with differing hardware addresses. So anyway, is there an automated way I can remove these entries?

My apologies for bringing up an old thread. :) Did anyone come up with an answer for a way to search for duplicate entries in JSS? Of course I mean duplicates based on MAC or serial number (*not* IP address).
Thanks,
Don

Probably the easiest way is to grant read only access to your jss SQL database directly and run a query against it.

So now that we updated JSS to 8.4, and we've granted access to more people, we've been alerted that there are multiple entries for a given computer.
We took a look...seems like if you dual-boot a Mac, the computer shows up twice in JSS...with the same MAC Address (en0) and the same Serial Number.
There's got to be a way for JSS to manage these duplicates.
PS, Jared thanks for the tip, we're working on setting up a query, will post when we've done that as the info might be helpful to others.

Sorry in advance for bringing up an old thread, but just noticed something with JSS 9.x.
JSS 9.x uses UUID as the primary identifier, instead of MAC Address like JSS <9 did.
If a Mac needs a logic board replacement, it appears to change the UUID, so the computer shows up 2x in JSS.
We can delete the stale computer record, but you lose all your logs (access history, policy history, etc.).
We can unmanage the stale computer record, doesn't "cost" us a seat against total JSS license count, but may cause confusion (folks running reports, etc.).
Just an FYI, in case someone searches JAMF Nation for "duplicate" computer records.
Thanks,
Don

JAMF Support just confirmed that duplicate records are possible in GSX if the computer UDID changes.
For example, in this case, a failed SSD on a MBPr was replaced, and the computer was reimaged/re-enrolled.
This should probably go into a JAMF article...hint...counting down to JNUC 2014...
