Licensed software report - how?

Not applicable

I'm looking for a way to do a simple licensed software count for a
particular computer group, but I am stumped.

I have all my software definitions set up. I can run an Application
Distribution Report against a group, but all that gives me is a breakdown of
every machine, in PDF format.

What I want is something like this is CSV format...

Group Name
Adobe CS 4 30
Adobe CS 5 34
Microsoft Office 2008 67

etc etc blah blah

I must have missed something because this should be simple enough to do. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Ollie,

I don't think you can extract a CSV of just the limited fields you are looking for. I believe the best you can do is view the number of computers with a particular app installed. The "View Membership" field under Smart Groups will report all the computer names and that sounds like it is not what you are after.

Cheers,

You may have to look at custom reports to achieve something akin to what you are after.

Thanks for replying guys.

I am very surprised that Casper lacks this basic reporting functionality -
to get a licensed software count for a computer group.

Sure, I can get a computer detail report, but a 300 page (pdf-only) document
is not what what my boss wants.

If I knew how to write in JSP I could have a go at a custom report, but I
don't.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I too, am being asked for something like this. Just a basic listing of applications with numbers. I don't need details regarding every dot release version.
Just as mentioned above:
MS Office 2011: 342
Adobe CS6: 51

The current Application report report gives me a a separate line item for each MS Office dot version like
MS Office
14.01: 23
14.0.2: 12
14.0.3: 2
etc…
Then a total for version 14.x

I would like to skip the details, and just get the total. And I would like to be able to specify more criteria, like department, for the search.

Has anyone done this with a custom report that you would be willing to share?
JAMF? This seems like basic reporting functionality… Thoughts?

Agreed, I am surprised this is not built in. I quickly hit the limits of what can be reported against in the console.

Anyone have any ideas? Powers that be are asking for a simple overview report of our environment.
