Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has done or thought of doing global deployment of
the Lion Installer App for groups of users. I'm in the process of bringing
my group up to the latest OS in the coming weeks and I would like an easy
method if possible to push out the installer application and or possibly do
the update. This would save a ton of walking around upgrading people from
flash drive. Is this something that can be easily done? I currently am
taking care of about 90 users on two floors of the building, most of them
are on 10.6.8 with all the latest updates already in place.
I really find this group an invaluable wealth of information. Anyone with
ideas on this or steps, please share the wealth.
Thanks for the help! The block on the App Store was terrific.

Charlie,
Check this out. I'll probably use this method with Self Service, haven't tested yet though.

If you don't mind letting the users drive the install, here's what I'm doing at one client.
Packaged up Lion Installer with Composer to copy it to /usr/local/Lion/ and got that .dmg into Casper Admin.
Using Self Service to deploy the installer, then launch it with a script as follows.
open /usr/local/Lion/Install Mac OS X Lion.app
sleep 3
killall "Self Service"
umount -f /Volumes/CasperShare
If you want to get the Lion installer out first, you can use a separate policy to cache it.. Then install cached in your Self Service policy.

Just tested out the InstallLion.pkg within Self Service. Works as advertised. Just need to unhide my admin account before and rehide after.
