Microsoft Office 2011 packaging made easy

Hi-

Just kinda figured this out (and it's nowhere on Microsoft's pages that I can find). If all you want to do is disable a few install options (in our case Communicator and Messenger as well as some other minor things) you can simply modify the distribution.dist file inside of the Office 2011 Installer mpkg. Set the start_selected="true" to start_selected="false" for each item you want to leave out.

Way easier than re-building a custom mpkg with PackageMaker.

Additionally, you can force certain items to be installed or force them to
not be installed. You can also hide choices.

This method is ideal for handing an installer over to another
administrator who may need to re-enable or disable certain options.
