Hello,
While looking at some of our Mobile device inventory information, we are seeing only 5-7 devices that have any User Information populated. And of those 5-7, 3 are completely wrong. Where on the device does this information get pulled from? I am looking at Username, Full name, Email address, and Position.
Thanks,
Tim

is your jss tied into a ldap server becuase it could pull the info from there.

Well, I get that JAMF is pulling the details from our LDAP server. And on the Macs I get that JAMF gets the initial user information from the person who logs in. What I don't get is where JAMF gets that initial user information on iOS devices, as no one ever "logs in." There are a few iOS devices that have my name attached to them, that I have never touched. We are seeing this with several names, and not just tech admins either, and we don't know where to go on the iOS device to change this association.
Additionally, the iOS devices that are actually mine have no name associated with them at all in JAMF. As we are moving towards using DEP and VPP licenses, we are needing to figure out how to get "Users" populating correctly.
I am guessing that JAMF needs to have the "Username" field populated first, and then JAMF will pull all of the rest of the user information from LDAP. So where do we edit that "Username" information on the iOS device itself?

Our iOS devices get this association/information from web enrollment. How are you enrolling the devices?

We do web enrollment for our iOS devices, but we use a generic account to do all of the enrollments. Do you create accounts for all users in the JSS to allow them to enroll their own device?

No for our iOS devices users go to https://jss.my.company.com:8443/enroll and log in using their credentials. No accounts in JSS other then our IT team member accounts. I'm in enterprise and we have a pretty relaxed IT policies, so we allow users to do the enrollment.

Hmm, well, too late for that. Wonder where I would go on the iOS device since that these devices are already enrolled. I'd say that 95% of our iOS devices have no information at all in the User section. I'd think there would be someplace on the device itself to set this information to have it pulled by the device inventory process.

Provided you've added an LDAP connection in your JSS,
There are two ways to assign a use to a device
In the record for the device:
go to User & Location
Click the edit button
Type in the username and click the Magnifier
This will do an LDAP lookup and assign the user to the device, populating any fields you've mapped.
or
Enroll the device using directory credentials
users need enrollment permissions to do this
and an iOS device cannot manage password resets so user
has to complete that process on anther device prior to enrollment process

Rats, I was really hoping for some method that can be done after enrolling, but still by the end user. I don't what to have to hand enter the user information in for all 4500 users, but also want to be able to mass enroll these devices using DEP.
Now with VPP licensing we are going to be assigning apps to users, and were hoping for a more manageable process to do that than either of these two choices.
