New JAMF person here so apologies for the stupid questions. I'm answering some concerns from our IT Security group on ports that are required for the different components of our planned Casper Suite setup. One item in particular - our Security guys are frowning at me about the requirement for port 80 for use of a NetBoot/SUS server to be able to distribute/own OS updates in house. I am pulling this from the related documentation that says this:
"When adding the root branch to the JSS as a software update server, be sure to enter “80” for the port."
-From PDF page 9, http://resources.jamfsoftware.com/documents/products/documentation/NetBoot-SUS-Server-User-Guide-v3.0.pdf
Does anybody know in what capacity port 80 is used for communication here? Between the JSS and the SUS? Between Mac clients and the SUS for updates?
Does it have to be port 80? (alternatives?)
I'm trying to allay their concern that use of port 80 may be a hard requirement for us to be able to distribute software updates on our own terms, from our own server.
Thanks!
