Netbooting new Macbooks 10.5 server

Hey there,

Has anyone encountered issues netbooting the new Macbooks that are
shipping with 10.5?

Here's the set up:

10.5.1 Netboot image built on 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ the intel GMA
X3100 chipset

Booting an identical Macbook 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ the intel GMA
X3100 chipset

one 10.5.1 for intels and one 10.4.11 for PPCs

Booting PPC machines works with a 10.4.11 image, and booting Macbooks
with the GMA 950 chipsets works with the 10.5.1 image so the netboot
images and service appears to be set up correctly. Seems to be the
only ones that aren't working are the newest machines with the chipset
that only works with 10.5.

Any suggestions? Am I missing something simple?

Thanks a lot!

We've been battling with netboot over the last few days, but have finally come up with a solution. While we weren't having issues getting the computers to Netboot, we were having issues with the imaging process.

Our netboot server is 10.5.1, which may be the ultimate fix for your issue. I believe Apple adds hardware information into the Netboot server with OS updates, and probably purposefully exluded machines that only boot 10.5 from the last 10.4 Server update.

We did find that checking the "Diskless" box for the 10.5 netboot image was vital to the imaging process. If the box isn't checked, you can't even unmount Macintosh HD, or whatever the primary partition is on the disk. Netboot must be using something on the local hard drive unless diskless is checked.
