Off-Topic - Excel Online file change notifications

I'm running into a problem where a department is all modifying excel files on Sharepoint or one drive. Then other people in the dept need to modify the files afterwards. They are trying to setup notifications to do so, but the MS KB Article that talks about it is lacking the notification option. Any thoughts on how to do this? I asked in the office channel on slack but nobody seemed to have an idea.
