Preparing for Shared Model - tips and tricks? PowerSchool SIS

We are on JSS 9.93 and have a handful of teachers chomping at the bit to get their Shared Model iPads in the game. We are generally familiar with much of the Shared Model process but were hoping for some more specifics about the process as we dig into this.

We are using PowerSchool and are attempting to prepare the exports. I've seen the conversion legend at https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com//discussion.html?id=20749#responseChild125802 but am not sure the fields all make sense.

(1) Where do the email addresses get created? Do we create those in ASM and bring those over into the spreadsheet? Or do we have to do some fancy concatenating in the spreadsheet every time?
(2) Over the summer we did a beta test of the Shared Model with Apple and ran into a bit of an issue where we had to first login to an iPad to get the user into our JSS before we could assign them to a Classroom. It was manageable since it was summer school and there was just one classroom of students, but now we're talking 8 periods x 30 students per teacher and that's an awful lot of time. There's got to be an explanation why the students don't populate into our JSS?
(3) What SFTP client do you use?
(4) Must all of the templates be uploaded? I've read some comments that the rosters may not be needed but would still have to be uploaded blank but with headers - is that correct?

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated! Thanks for your time and sharing!

Hi @david.yenzer,

1) I don't understand the question - do your students have email addresses? Ours are in PowerSchool.

2) I haven't done that kind of test.. but with ASM you'll have all the users in the JSS. They will be in the class. If you create a mobile device static or smart group for each class then you could include that in the class to take care of 'which devices are in this class to use'. Once you import the ASM classroom the students import with them.

3) CyberDuck for interactive!! Not sure for automated.

4) Not sure about the blank with headers but if you don't have a roster then how will the students be linked to the class? In my experience Apple wants all template files in the zip or it'll complain.
