Profile transfers with Jamf or other means?

I need a way to backup a user profile from 1 Mac to another. Right now we use an external and backup the old machine with Time Machine and then restore the backup to the new machine. This works great but settings are a problem. We would like to keep the settings from the old machine and place them on the new machine however settings seem to transfer the name and network state as well. This cause a problem where jamf will alert and say "a Mac with this name already exists" or something like that.

We are not imaging Macs, our new Macs are enrolled in DEP, config profile and polices get applied. I feel like I am looking into this too much. So what is the best way to transfer a user profile from 1 Mac to another when jamf is part of the equation?

You could always use Apple's Migration Assistant to migrate a user account including documents and local settings, and since the computer is enrolled in DEP, remote configurations and settings should apply automatically as soon as the computer is enrolled in JAMF.

we have been using Rsync (over ssh) to move user folders over the network... it works well, but it's a manual process and requires command line knowledge...
i keep threatening to create an automation script, but haven't had time to do it...
