Red Badge icon on Self Service issue with Patch Management

With the new Patch Management update moving some to legacy for instance Office Suite. I see the new version has the ability to be put in Self Service and notify the end-user there is an update available. Also an option to enforce after a certain time if the end-user does not update.

This is a nice feature I see in Self Service but the red badge does not show on the Self Service icon in the dock unless the end-user opens it. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong? Shouldn't the red badge show on the Self Service icon to inform the end-user there is an update available?

Who opens Self Service on their own to check for updates. It should show so they know an update is available for install.
