Hello,

I'm trying to decide whether our school system should switch from Self Service web clip to the mobile app. "If it isn't broken..."

What are the major advantages of Self Service Mobile?
Categories
The ability to Reinstall an app (would this retain local user data?)
iBeacons

Disadvantages?
cannot updates apps with App Store disabled
complicated deployment that requires self service web to enroll into VPP and install Self Service Mobile (or wait 24 hours for update inventory)

thoughts?

thank you!

chris

They can do updates with self-service and the app store disabled. They simply click re-install, and that will give them the latest version.

We're new to Casper, and as such have only used the app and have never used the web clip.

Hello there,

We are mulling the same thing. Did you happen to go for it, and if you did how did it go?

I have been messing with the app and have a bunch of Apps scoped to myself and the organization using categories is amazing.

We worry that it won't auto install on a freshly wiped iPad. Thank you.

We held off on SS Mobile, and are still using the webclip.

When I have time I'll test assigning Self Service Mobile to the iPad itself and see if that helps, but for now I don't see a way to wait the appropriate amount of time and then install SS Mobile.

To your question about a freshly wiped iPad - the initial Update Inventory will notice the app is not installed and will try and install it.
