I am finding a number of my students to have removed their apple ID and changed it to another at some stage, or have received and been assigned a new ipad, but with a new app store account.

Thus them receiving a false match for their VPP Token association.

is there way to view all these false matches in a smart group? so I can revoke their existing token location to their previous app store account, and force them to re-invite?

I don't see it as a criteria under User Smart Groups. If you create a Feature Request I'll upvote it.

Be careful with automatic revoking and reinviting. Users will sign their friends in all the time to share content and apps, which is ok, and then forget to switch back.
