Trying to figure out a solution but the standard options don't quite work.
For a variety of reasons mostly out of my control, I've been tasked with a policy to schedule a regular, weekly reboot of our Macs. However, we need two "exceptions" to the policy. First, for anyone working on a project, we need the option to defer the reboot for a number of hours. The issue here is that normal deferrals are for a deadline of a specific date. Updating the policy every week with a new date is less than ideal, but I'll go that way if I have to. Any other good method to say "defer for X hours", or "defer until Monday at 10pm" or something like that, without a specific date attached?
Next, I've been asked to allow the policy to be skipped if the system has been rebooted within the previous 48 hours. Essentially, this will give staff the opportunity to "plan ahead" if they have a task that needs to run overnight. So far I'm experimenting with an uptime EA, which then puts machines into a smart group, and set an exclusion based on the smart group, but I still don't have it working quite right - any other suggested approaches?
I know it is a less than ideal approach in the 1st place, just trying to meet the requirements I've been given.
