When I first started with Casper 7.1 I started entering in dozens of Smart Groups, but quickly discovered the 7.1 glitch in not updating Smart Groups.
I finally upgraded to 7.3.1 this weekend, but I'm noticing that the incorrect memberships are carrying over from 7.1. If I click the 'Edit Criteria' and then save (with no changes), it seems to update to the correct number, but that worked on 7.1 as well... until the memberships went out of whack again.
So two questions related to Smart Groups:
1) Once I've re-saved all the Smart Groups, will they update properly in the future?
2) Is there a way to batch update the Smart Groups? I just be lazy, but this whole "Go to Smart Groups -> Edit group -> Save -> Wait for update, repeat" process is causing my RSI to flare up, not to mention wasting a bunch of time.
Thanks in advance

Jeff,
As far as I'm aware this is a known issue in 7.31 as well and is hopefully being worked on. When I try to compare numbers for searches and groups I think I'm seeing things, but really the smart group count isn't accurate unless I go in to edit and just save. This issue will persist and doing a save once I don't believe fixes it for the long term.
There is no way that I now of (doesn't mean it doesn't exist) to update these en masse. Sorry. =(
Bad news all around.

Ouch!
And I was about to start applying my policies based on Smart Groups, for example, install Self Service 7.3.1 to all machines that don't already have it, and set it to "Ongoing" so that if it failed it would try again later.
Non-updating Smart Groups will definitely mess me up - and my second (hopefully last) real big disappointment with the suite - the first one being my inability to specify a server for computers out of the corporate network segments...

I think it's fine for policies. I think it's just a display issue on the Smart Groups page...

This is what I've experienced.
Jeff, we've a self service policy scoped the same & it works.

Ben.

Thanks for the responses - that does help clarify things and encourages me a lot.
So to summarize: You can still assign policies to groups, and they will get to the right machines, even if the display of the Smart Groups is incorrect?
Not 100% ideal, but if it works I won't complain too much ;).
