Can I upgrade from 8.52 to 8.71 (skipping 8.6) with no problems?

I recently upgraded the JSS from 8.52 to 8.7 and didn't have any issues. Just make sure you run a full backup before you do so. Also remember to update all the Casper suite tools to 8.7 including Casper Imaging if you are using that and also the app plist in the NBI. See https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/article.html?id=67 for guidance.
Cheers

One of the other business units across my network went from 8.4 (I think) to 8.7 and didn't have any issues, but same as above, make sure you have a backup of your database (and a backup of the backup). FWIW every Casper upgrade I've ever done has been painless.

I have had issues before. Most recently, going from 8.62 to 8.64 - and later to 8.71 - I was getting errors with the updates that prevented them from working. I managed to address it by requesting 8.63, applying that, and then applying 8.64, and finally 8.71. I had a similar issue once, trying to move from 8.21 to 8.52 - that was resolved by my manipulating the database directly (needed to create a missing table, then everything worked fine).
Most updates have been pretty painless, but it does happen sometimes. You might try incremental updates, if you do run into an issue. Definitely backup & test first! I have secondary drives on all my Casper servers, and use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy the production system over every time I do an upgrade. That way, if it fails I can just change the startup disk & be back up and running straight away.
