Yosemite Firewall script not working

zmbarker

JSS is 9.6

I have been using the JAMF provided firewall script to enable firewall. https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/viewProductFile.html?id=135&fid=457

However, the script does not work for the 10.10.x computers.
How do others enable firewall?
Any thoughts?

Not sure why their script is so complicated.

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf globalstate -int 1

Yup, use the same as @alexjdale. Changing state to 2 will be more restrictive too if necessary

The script does not work on 10.10 because the equation for the OS version does not work in the script:

OS=/usr/bin/defaults read /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion ProductVersion | awk '{print substr($1,1,4)}'

if [[ "$OS" == "10.4" ]] then ....
if [[ "$OS" > "10.4" ]] then

OS X 10.10 will return '10.1' as a return value. Nothing will happen because its not equal to 10.4 and not bigger then 10.4.

Changing the number 4 in {print substr($1,1,4)} to a higher number does not help either because 10.10 or 10.10.1 is smaller then 10.4.

If you are not using an 10.4 or earlier you can remove the complete if statement for the '=="10.4" and remove the if from the ">"10.4" so it will not look at the version anymore. The script would then look like:

I wanted to point out that @dieter.lohuis's explanation affects the Jamf provided firewall extension attribute as well. Found in Templates, and here: https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/viewProductFile.html?fid=330. Perhaps @jake could update it.
